SCIENCE COMMUNICATION

Along with research, I am dedicated to advancing the spread of science communication, as I believe that the natural sciences are extremely accessible and can be widely loved. One of the sagest pieces of advice that I was offered was that for people to care about conservation, they need to know not just what you are fighting against, but also what you are fighting for.

Returning to that narrow sliver [of human consciousness] after the science-led grand tour of space-time, we arrive home in the world for which the evolution of the brain prepared us. Now, with science and the arts combined, we have it all” – Edward O. Wilson, Consilience

In the spring of 2021, I hosted a Science-Art Gallery for the UCSC EEB Department. We paired four researchers with four talented artists, all either graduate students or undergraduates in the EEB Community. Each piece communicates the scientist’s work, ranging from natural history illustrations to abstract concepts. View each art piece here.

I previously served as an illustrator for An Incredible Journey Curriculum, a series of educational resources by NOAA Fisheries to PromoteĀ Salmon Stewardship to children.

I have also released several episodes on the Sheltered Spring Podcast, covering topics such as urban animal’s spatial distribution as well as other distinct animal behaviors during epidemics.
